Wheeler County Commission on Children and Families plan, advocate and stimulated the communities to act on behalf of children.  The vision of the state and local commissions is all Oregon’s children and youth will be safe, healthy, well-educated, employable and valued contributors to their communities.  Recommendations are made to Wheeler County Court for allocation and distribution of state and federal grant funds that come to Wheeler County through the Oregon Commission on Children & Families.

Commission on Children and Families membership:

  • Are interested community members who set policy and advocate for the Commissions’ vision, mission and goal
  • Focus on the steps necessary to achieve the goals of the comprehensive plan
  • Are liaisons with community citizens
  • Become informed about paradigm shifts, community needs, strengths and existing resources
  • Build partnerships with citizens, existing organizations and committee members
  • Membership must be at least fifty percent lay members (persons that do not derive their income from a profession whose primary clients are between the ages of 0 and 18 years)
  • Guide, monitor, allocate and assess for efficient use of program funds
  • Volunteer each month on Commission or community matters
  • Advocate for family friendly, strength based services
